The paper company in Slavošovce has celebrated 200 years of its existence

The paper tissue manufacture company SHP Slavošovce celebrates the 200th anniversary from its establishment. In the second half of 90s, the company was on the edge of bankruptcy. It would not have even existed, if the company SCP Ružomberok had not taken control over it and if the reconstruction had not been realised with the „healing programme“ between the years 2001-2004.

Slavošovce community was founded in 1318 and it is situated in the region of Horný Gemer. In 1817, the old workshop was rebuilt into a paper mill and since that point the history of paper manufacture in this community has started. In the time of Czechoslovakia in 1923, the paper mill fell into a financial crisis and its sold out was finally proposed. Professor Ursíny from the university České učení technické in Brno spoke up for the paper production in Slavošovce with the prime minister and the result was the state subvention for its renovation.

Currently, SHP Slavošovce is a strong regional employer – 300 people work there from nearby and other 300 people work in supplier companies. „Whole families work here. We take pride in professionalism, and the know-how of our employees who work under optimal conditions. We actively support local communities and build up relationships in the region, especially in the social area and in the protection of environment. Also, we closely cooperate with local self-government, voluntary firemen and with church. In these days, we donated Rožňava diocese 100 000 euro“ said the director of SHP Group Richard Žigmund at the ceremonial meeting with employees.

After incorporating the company into SHP Group, it started orientating on the production and selling of paper tissues. „The products of SHP Slavošovce are being sold in more than 30 countries from all over the world. Lasr year, we made an investment of 1 million € into the reconstruction of the machine. We are considering more investments due to the growing demand of our products and also due to our new products with the higher value added“ stated Milan Fiľo, president and chairman of the board of ECO-INVESTMENT.
